RE: Summer Vacation, Tahoe/California Coast

On edit.....c2c Resort is called Redwood River Resort.....:B.And "city pass" no longer offers Alcatraz as part of the package, however, Aquarium of the Bay is included, along with an "option" of the Exploratorium...Those 2 attractions alone are worth the price of the "pass" We just did a little trip altering, and I booked three nights at the Redwood River Resort. I'm glad to hear someone has stayed there and enjoyed it. We are really looking forward to it. Thanks:) There is a visitors center in the Ave. of the Giants that has lots of interesting displays and information-a truck made out of a redwood log! Make sure you go to the Founders Grove. It's a very easy short loop but you can see some awesome examples of true giants both standing and felled. The roots on these things are so amazing and the whole experience will take your breath away-especially if you have never seen/experienced these trees. I also recommend the Newton B. Drury trail a bit more north of the Founders Grove. Feel free to pm me if you'd like to see some photos.:) We have been through twice in the last couple years. We stayed at Benbow rv once and it was nice too. It was not 'in' the redwoods, but near them and had a pool and it was blazing hot so we really enjoyed that! The place you are staying looks nice.

RE: Lake Tahoe info hunt

No, the Heavenly Gondola is not worth $100.00 IMO. Drive to the top of Kingsbury Grade for a very similar view of the lake, plus a view of the Carson Valley. Not sure what to tell you about the RV parks on the South Shore, too close to home to consider staying at for us, so no reviews from me. I have read good things on this site of Tahoe Valley, so I think you are on the right track. If you want to dry camp, I would recommend Fallen Leaf Campground.Thank you for the road recommendation! I was thinking that at 50.00 an adult and I think 30.00 for kids they better include some valium for the sticker shock!:B

RE: Lake Tahoe info hunt

I think the OP means its $100 for the family of 4 to take the gondola ride to the top of Heavanly. Here is a nice site that lists the campgrounds: Lake Tahoe Camping Here is another nice site: Tahoe Campgrounds This site has a nice listing of activities: Tahoe Activities Our kids really liked the river rafting down the Truckee river. There are two companies running from TAhoe City, (north shore). We used Truckee River Rafting Co You rent large rafts and run down the flatter portion. You can take as long as you want, stop along the way and let the kids play in the water etc. Now, I understand you're going in June so the water may be too cold, but it is still a lot of fun. Yes, yes. That is what I meant! I am totally looking forward to the river floating! I think the kids will love it and when they are older we'll attempt the white water portion.

Lake Tahoe info hunt

Hello all! Planning the Tahoe getaway and getting excited! We have a couple choices to make. We can go end of May/beg. of June for up to two weeks or mid June but we can only go for 6N/7days-and really, we'd be driving all day on either end (10 hours) so only 5 days of fun. The other thing is the gondola will not be operational until mid June but I looked that up and it is ridiculously expensive!:E 100.00 for our family of four! Is it really worth it? We are looking at Tahoe Valley RV resort as it has f/h, pool for the kids, playground etc....DH likes a full service campground. :W Doesn't want the kids to get bored! Lol! Would love to hear opinions. thanks in advance!

RE: Summer Vacation, Tahoe/California Coast

AVoid Campland by the bay!!! OVerpriced and it's a pit! :( The koa (if it still exists) in Chula Vista is a MUCH nicer option w/a pool for the kids. A wee bit off the beaten path but worth it imho. There is also Santa Fe RV park. Right next to the freeway but I'd choose it over Campland any day. SFRV has a pool too and is a bit closer to everything (sea world, zoo downtown) than Koa. We LOVE the Avenue of the giants but don't know if you will be that far up. Trying to make resv. at Meeks right now myself! If you can extend your trip at all, I'd take more time to get down CA-especially with a 1 year old. ;)Our favorite midstate cg is Cotillion Gardens in FElton near Santa Cruz. It is right in the redwoods, has a pool, close to the historic steam and diesel train depot, a river runs real close by. WE have been there 3 times in 4 years. Kids LOVE it!! Enjoy your trip!
